Damdit 1.1: twelve new checks and clearer evidence
Eleven more accessibility checks, a signal for pre-ticked cookie consent, plain-language evidence, faster large audits and security updates. A free update for Damdit 1.0.
Damdit 1.1 is out. If you already have Damdit, it will offer the update the next time it checks; nothing changes until you say yes.
Twelve new checks
Eleven more accessibility checks from axe-core:
- a page without a main region, or a header, main or footer region that is nested or repeated,
- dialogs without a name,
- form fields whose only label is a tooltip,
- elements marked as decorative that can still be focused or carry ARIA attributes,
- focusable elements that don’t say what they are.
Pre-ticked consent. Some cookie banners load with “Marketing” or “Statistics” already switched on, and some forms tick the newsletter box for the visitor. Damdit now points that out. It reads the page as it loaded, never clicks the banner and doesn’t play lawyer: it shows you what was ticked, and you decide.
All twelve land in Needs review, at Low severity at most, and none of them changes the score. They’re things worth a look, not proof of a bug. They show up from your next audit; audits you already have stay as they were.
Evidence in plain words
Some issues used to show their evidence the way the detector saw it: fields like “Affected Page Urls” and an expected result that said, more or less, “look at it yourself”. Sixteen checks now spell it out.
The page language check, for example, now says which language the page declares, which language its text is actually in, on how many of the compared pages, and that the declared language should match the text. The same goes for duplicate IDs, forms, noindex, hreflang, anchor links, SEO titles and descriptions, and share images.
Faster, and a few fixes
Large audits do less repeated work, and clicking through the issues of older audits no longer reloads big reports. An audit that couldn’t be opened until a restart now opens, a robots.txt with only licence or content-signal lines is no longer called empty, and the keyboard behaves again in the Not relevant comment. Electron 44.10.2 brings the latest Chromium and Node.js security fixes.
